The NCAA’s current home run leader alongside Alabama’s Justin Lebron is East Tennessee State Buccaneer infielder Grant Gallagher. He has nine home runs this season.
Gallagher has been dominating thus far in his first season in Johnson City. He is on a nine-game hit streak with multiple hits in four of those games.
He also had another multi-hit game in the Buccaneers’ first matchup of the year against Northern Kentucky.
The nine-game hitting streak that began back on Feb. 18 is not the only streak Gallagher is on.
He has homered in four straight games. This dates back to ETSU’s game last Friday against Siena where he homered twice.
The home run production he has put together all season has paid dividends for East Tennessee State.
They have a great 10-2 record this season and rank towards the top of the country in home runs. They sit in the top five for home runs hit this season along with Tennessee, Oregon, Alabama, and Georgia.
For a Southern Conference (SOCON) school, that is not a bad spot to be in.
As of right now, Gallagher is sitting with a .455 batting average and an astonishing 1.303 slugging percentage. He gets on base in over 50% of his at-bats with 15 hits and eight walks. He also has 13 RBI.
The star infielder and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 7. They will begin a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Panthers at home in Thomas Field.
The first pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
