The Los Angeles Dodgers High-A affiliate, the Great Lakes Loons, threw a seven inning combined no-hitter against the Cubs High-A affiliate, the South Bend Cubs, on June 5.
Loons right-handed pitcher Eriq Swan started the game and threw six innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Roque Gutierrez, also a righty, pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts for the save at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.
The Loons won the game 3-0. A two-run home run from third baseman Logan Wagner that brought in right fielder Zyhir Hope, who walked, put them up 2-0 after two. The Great Lakes Looks added an insurance run in seventh with an RBI single from catcher Carlos Rojas that brought in Wagner.
South Bend left-handed starting pitcher Evan Aschenbeck took the loss, throwing seven innings of three-run ball with five strikeouts.
Swan, 23, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Middle Tennessee State University with a compensatory pick. This season, he has 38 strikeouts in 30 innings with an ERA of 5.04. Swan made his organizational debut with the Dodgers in 2024.
Gutierrez, 22 was born in Guasave, Mexico, and debuted with the Dodgers organization in the 2021 season. His season numbers are 32 innings, 45 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.66.
He also has pitched in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico. Gutierrez pitched for Aguilas de Mexicali for four winters, most recently in the 2023-2024 season, where he has pitched 58 career innings with 78 strikeouts and an ERA of 5.19.
