Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara has made himself available for the Dominican Republic team for the World Baseball Classic in 2026. He has not been contacted yet, according to MLB.com’s Kevin Barral.

“I’m here,” Alcántara said. “If they want to call me, I’m ready.”

Alcántara pitched in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but did not have a great showing. He pitched 3 2/3 innings and had a 7.36 ERA in his lone outing against Venezuela.

Alcántara won the National League Cy Young Award in 2022, but has struggled since. He had a 4.14 ERA in 2023 and missed all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. This year, he is off to a slow start as well. Through nine starts, he has a 7.99 ERA. He is still trying to find his best form after surgery, but there is no denying he is one of the best pitchers in the world when he’s at his best.

The Dominican Republic will have many options to choose from when it comes to building its roster for the World Baseball Classic. Alcántara could end up getting a call to return to the team soon.
