 Matt Tallarini - World Baseball Network  |    Jul 5th, 2024 5:32pm EDT

The Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball announced the 2024 Honkbalweek Haarlem tournament roster on July 3.

The president of FIBS is Andrea Marcon.

From July 12 to 19, all of the 2024 Honkbalweek Haarlem games will be played at Pim Mulier Stadion in Haarlem, Netherlands.

The gold medal and bronze medal game will be on July 19.

Italy will be one of the six teams in the field at the Honkbalweek Haarlem event in Haarlem, Netherlands, with host nation Kingdom of Netherlands, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Team USA.

Italy’s roster will have 24 players from their SerieA1 league play at the 2024 Honkbalweek Haarlem tournament.

The Serie A1 league operated by FIBS consists of groups A, B, C, D, and E.

The Italian Baseball League is also the name of the highest level of Serie A1.

Players returning from the 2023 World Baseball Classic roster are pitcher Claudio Scotti and catcher Alberto Mineo.

Italy finished 2-2 at the 2023 WBC, their last international senior event in Pool A, with the same record as Cuba, Panama, the Netherlands, and host nation Chinese Taipei in Taichung, Taiwan, at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium.

Italy finished in the 2023 WBC Quarterfinals, losing 9-3 to Japan in the Tokyo Dome.

This is the only international senior event that Italy will play in 2024. It did not qualify for the Premier 12 tournament in November despite being ranked No. 14 in the World Baseball Rankings from the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

The 2024 Honkbalweek Haarlem event will affect each participating team’s place in the WBR.

Italy will have manager Gianguido Poma at the helm for the 2024 Honkbalweek Haarlem event. It will be assisted by coaches Michele Gerali, Alberto D’Auria, Christian Gnudi, and Carlo Del Santo, as well as pitching coaches Rolando Cretis and Roberto Corradini.
