On Friday, University of Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin announced that head coach Kevin O’Sullivan will be suspended for the first three games of the 2026 college baseball season.
The suspension comes after the head coach’s actions in the Conway regional during the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
O’Sullivan berated NCAA Tournament staff members and Coastal Carolina staff members with profane comments after the Gators’ game against the East Carolina Pirates was delayed.
The head coach later apologized for his actions.
Stricklin commented on O’Sullivan’s suspension in a press release put together by Florida baseball.
“The suspension announced today reinforces Florida Athletics’ commitment to our standards, with Coach O’Sullivan accepting full responsibility for his behavior,” Stricklin said. “Sully [O’Sullivan] has vowed to learn from the experience and serve as a better leader moving forward.”
The first three games of the 2026 season that O’Sullivan will not be a part of are against the UAB Blazers. This is Florida’s opening weekend series in Gainesville from February 13-15.
In 2025, the Florida Gators finished the season 39-22 overall. They were 15-15 in SEC play.
The team made the NCAA Tournament for the 17th straight season.
In NCAA Tournament play during the Conway regional, Florida defeated the Fairfield Stags 17-2. However, two losses to East Carolina knocked them out and ended their season.
