Florida Offense Thrives as the Gators Win the Series Against Georgia in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. – On Sunday, April 12, the Florida Gators defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 13-7. It is the 27th win of the season for Florida, and they take down Georgia in the weekend series at Foley Field.

Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan talked about his team’s massive series win on the road.

“Every win is a big one,” O’Sullivan said. “It seems like they are more difficult to get on the road. However, I like the way the team responded offensively from yesterday to today.”

As the Florida head coach mentioned, the Gators’ offense was the big factor that led to a meaningful Southeastern Conference (SEC) series win on the road. Florida had 16 hits as a team on Sunday compared to just two in Saturday’s game.

Hayden Yost homers twice against Georgia

Hayden Yost let loose for the Gators with two home runs against Georgia. He had three total hits on the day and three RBIs.

O’Sullivan talked about Yost’s major day at the plate against Georgia.

“He has earned his right to play some more,” O’Sullivan said, regarding Yost. “To see him have the day he had today was great. I am really proud of him.”

Yost has three home runs this season. His other home run came against the Florida State Seminoles back on April 7.

Multiple Gators with multi-hit performances

Yost was not the only Florida player with multiple hits against Georgia on Sunday. Ethan Surowiec, Blake Cyr, Kyle Jones, and Cade Kurland also had multi-hit performances against the Bulldogs.

Jones led the Gators with five hits. He also had a home run and two RBIs in the game. The redshirt-sophomore and Athens-native recorded a hit in every at-bat he had.

He talked about Florida’s huge series win and the feeling of playing well in his hometown with World Baseball Network.

“It is a great feeling coming back home and being able to play,” Jones said. “My family and everyone I know are here. To come out here and get the series win for the team is awesome.”

Surowiec joined Yost and Jones by hitting a home run in the first inning that gave Florida an early 3-0 lead.

Cyr and Kurland combined for four hits in the win over the Bulldogs.

Up next for Florida

After the win over Georgia on Sunday, the Florida Gators have a 27-10 overall record. They are 9-6 in SEC play.

Their next game is against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Tuesday, April 14. The game is at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville, and the first pitch is at 6:30 p.m. ET.
