On Friday, February 20, Florida State left-handed pitcher Wes Mendes put together a huge performance against the Michigan Wolverines.
In a 6-1 win for the Seminoles, Mendes had seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings of work. Over that same stretch, he allowed just one hit and one walk. Mendes also allowed no runs against Michigan.
The big performance came on a big stage at the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Link Jarrett talks about Mendes and his start at Globe Life Field
Florida State head coach Link Jarrett raved about the southpaw’s start against Michigan after the win.
“I’m proud of Wes [Mendes],” Jarrett said. “I thought he had a lot of things working in his favor today. His fastball had good life, and all his secondary pitches were in play.”
Mendes has put together a great start to the 2026 college baseball season. In 10 1/3 innings of work, which includes starts against both Michigan and James Madison, he has allowed no runs. The left-hander also has 14 strikeouts so far this season.
Mendes has solidified himself as Florida State’s Friday-night starter and is looking more like one of the top aces in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
