Former MLB star and 2002 AL MVP Miguel Tejada is returning to the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB) as a bench coach for the Bravos De Leon. It will be his first appearance in the LMB since he played in 2015 with the Pericos de Puebla.
Miguel Tejada is one of the more controversial players in recent memory. He was one of the star players during the “moneyball” seasons for the Oakland Athletics. In his seven years with the A’s he slashed .270/.331/.460, his best season came in 2002. In that season, Tejada won the AL MVP award with a slash line of .308/.354/.508 with 34 home runs and 134 RBIS.
Tejada had his best stint with the Orioles as during his four years with the team. Between 2004 and 2007, he slashed .305/.354/.481 and would be an All-Star in three of the four seasons.
He would jump around to various teams throughout the rest of his career, ending with the Royals. While on the Royals in 2013, Tejada tested positive for an Amphetamine (Adderall). He was suspended for 105 games. Tejada stated that he had been taking it for the past five years as the league gave him a medical pass but he did not renew it.
2013 would be Tejada’s final year in the Majors as he would go on to jump around to different international leagues. This will be the first time Tejada will be a coach in his entire career.
