With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, the Brewers made a move to bolster their starting rotation. They’ve acquired SP Frankie Montas in exchange for OF Joey Wiemer and RP Jakob Junis.

Montas, 31 years old this season, has thrown to a 4-8 record, posting a 5.01 ERA in 19 starts with the Reds. He joins a rotation composed of Freddy Peralta and Colin Rea and recently acquired Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays. After rumors swirled that the team was looking at White Sox ace Erick Fedde, he was traded in a 3-team deal with the Cardinals and Dodgers.
As for the Reds return, they land Jakob Junis for their bullpen. Junis has thrown exceptionally well, and besides only appearing in 10 games, he went 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA. Junis debuted in 2017 with the Royals. Before joining the Brewers this past offseason, Junis pitched two seasons with the San Francisco Giants, throwing in 63 total games and recording a 4.18 ERA.
And finally, the last name the Reds received from the Brew Crew is outfielder Joey Wiemer. After playing 132 games with the Brewers in 2023, Wiemer struggled in 19 games in the 2024 season. Blasting 13 homers in ‘23, he only managed to pick up four hits in 26 at-bats this year. Since being demoted to AAA Nashville, Wiemer has played in 53 games, hitting three homers and collecting 21 RBIs, batting .242.
With less than 24 hours away from the trade deadline, there is still more to be done. Anything could happen within the next few hours, so we’ll see which teams end up making the next move.
