Freddy Beruvides Talks Appalachian League Pitcher of the Year Award and Pittsburgh Transfer Decision

On August 12, it was announced that left-hander Freddy Beruvides won the Pitcher of the Year Award in the Appalachian League.

While playing for the Greeneville Flyboys, the southpaw had a 0.83 ERA in 21 2/3 innings of work. He also had a WHIP of 1.11 and 29 strikeouts over that same stretch of play.

The southpaw talked about everything that went right for him this summer in the Appalachian League.

First things first was getting strike one, getting ahead of guys, attacking guys,” Beruvides said. “You can’t get outs without getting strike one. That was the motto the whole summer, really.”

Beruvides 2025 Season at Chipola College

During the 2025 college baseball season, Beruvides played at the junior college level for Chipola College in Marianna, Fla.

The left-hander talked about that experience and how it benefited his own game.

They [Chipola College] did an amazing job with development and creating opportunities for not just me, but for every D1 bounce-back we had there,” Beruvides said. “We had a really good ball club. Obviously, we couldn’t accomplish our ultimate goals, but in the long run, we all accomplished what we wanted.”

Pitt Transfer Decision, College World Series Goals

One of those accomplishments that Beruvides spoke of was the chance to play college baseball at the major Division One level.

On May 19, the southpaw took to X to announce that he would be transferring and playing for the Pittsburgh Panthers in 2026.

Beruvides talked about why Pitt was the perfect program for him.

“I believe Pitt gives me the best opportunity, in terms of competition and academics,” the left-hander stated.

Beruvides also stated that he and the Panthers have their sight set on Omaha and the College World Series.

He added: “That’s the main thing. I was fortunate enough my freshman year to be on an Omaha-caliber team at UVA [Virginia]. I know what it takes — a lot of internal leadership, a lot of hard work. I wanted to go to a place where I’d have the opportunity to do that.”
