On Tuesday, the George Mason Patriots made history against Holy Cross during their mid-week matchup.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Pats scored 23 runs which is an NCAA record for the most runs scored by a team in a single inning.

The record was previously held by Wichita State and Penn State. Both of those teams scored 21 runs in one inning in 1984 and 1983 respectively.

George Mason got out to a massive 23-0 lead and Holy Cross could not recover. The Patriots went on to win by way of a run-rule in seven innings. The final score was 26-6.

The Pats had three different hitters with four RBI and catcher Andrew Raymond was also a big contributor with three RBI himself.

The run totals among players were spread out amongst those who came in for George Mason. Seven different players scored three runs for the Patriots and six other players contributed with at least a run scored.

The historic day and win for the Pats brought their record to 8-4 overall. In the Atlantic 10 conference, they rank third behind only Richmond and St. Bonaventure.

Their next game will be Friday, Mar. 7, as they will take on the Georgetown Hoyas. The game will be played at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. and the first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST.
