On Wednesday, the Georgia Bulldogs announced that they were giving a contract extension to their head coach, Wes Johnson, through the 2031 season.

In a press release on the Georgia athletics page, it says that the extension will come with an increased compensation package. Johnson is currently in his second season coaching the Bulldogs in Athens. He has a record of 85-31 overall over that span. This season, Georgia is 42-14 overall with a 18-12 record in SEC play.

A season ago, Georgia hosted a super regional in the NCAA Tournament and was on the cusp of making it to the College World Series in Omaha. That was the first time a super regional had been played in Athens in over 15 years.

This season, Georgia is primed for another big postseason run. The Bulldogs finished the season ranked 10th in the country in D1 Baseball’s top 25. They were the fifth seed in the 2025 SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala.

The head coach seemed pleased with the extension and was excited to be hanging around in Athens.

I’d like to thank Josh Brooks [Georgia Athletic Director], President Jere Morehead, and all our fans for their commitment to Georgia Baseball,” said Johnson. “We have received tremendous support from day one, and that is evident from the $45 million renovation that was completed this year that is vital for our player development, recruiting and the overall fan experience at Foley Field.”

Johnson has shoved Georgia into the college baseball spotlight as a team with national prominence over the past few seasons.

Up Next – Georgia lost in their first game of the 2025 SEC Tournament as Oklahoma defeated them 3-2.

They will await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show to see where they are seeded in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The show will begin at noon EDT on Monday, May 26.
