Ramsey joined Georgia Tech’s staff in 2019 as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach in 2021.
He replaces longtime head coach Danny Hall, who retired following the 2025 season. Hall ranks ninth all-time in NCAA baseball wins, ending his career with a record of 1,452-793-1.
“I am honored to be named the head coach of Georgia Tech baseball,” Ramsey said on the program’s website. “Tech is such a special place to me and my family. To be entrusted to take the torch from Coach Hall – one of the greatest coaches in the history of our sport – and lead this program is the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only does Tech have one of the richest traditions in all of college baseball, but we have one of the brightest futures as well. I’m very grateful to President Angel Cabrera and Jon Palumbo for their support and confidence, and I can’t wait to get to work. Go Jackets!”
Georgia Tech won the ACC regular season title in 2025, finishing 19-11 in conference play and 41-19 overall. The Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 18 in the nation on May 25.
They were eliminated in the NCAA Regionals in Oxford, Mississippi, falling to Murray State and Mississippi.
Ramsey’s offense in 2025 led the nation with 149 doubles and ranked among the Power Four conference leaders in several categories: batting average (.315, second), hits (632, fourth), runs per game (8.4, fourth), on-base percentage (.416, fifth), and slugging percentage (.540, fifth).
Since Ramsey joined the staff in 2019, Georgia Tech has led the ACC in batting average (.308), total hits (3,961), doubles (796), on-base percentage (.408), OPS (.918), and sacrifice flies (208). The Yellow Jackets also rank second in the conference in runs (2,937), triples (84), home runs (547), RBI (2,709), and slugging percentage (.510) over that span.
He has coached three semifinalists for both the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Award: Kevin Parada (2022), Drew Burress (2024 and 2025), Kyle Lodise (2025), and Kyle McCann (2019).
Ramsey played at Florida State from 2009-12, earning ACC Player of the Year, All-American, and ABCA National Player of the Year honors in his senior season. He was selected 23rd overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2012 MLB Draft.
At Florida State, Ramsey hit .339 with 48 doubles, 15 triples, 34 home runs, and 202 RBI, starting his final 202 games. As a senior, he committed just one error in 160 chances and finished with a .994 fielding percentage.
Ramsey played seven seasons in the minors with the Cardinals, Indians, Dodgers, Mariners, and Twins, appearing in 548 games. He hit .260 with 502 hits, 90 doubles, 15 triples, 58 home runs, 219 RBI, 35 stolen bases, and a .764 OPS. He participated in the 2014 MLB All-Star Futures Game and helped the Columbus Clippers win the 2015 International League title.
He joined Florida State’s coaching staff ahead of the 2018 fall season and was inducted into the Florida State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.
Ramsey is the first ABCA National Player of the Year to become a Division I head coach and the first ACC Player of the Year to take over as head coach at an ACC school.
