On Tuesday, March 10, Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey had a crazy game in a 14-0 win for the Yellow Jackets over the West Georgia Wolves.
Lackey had three hits, which were a double, a triple, and a home run. He was a single shy of hitting for the cycle.
The catcher also played eight different positions in the field against West Georgia. The only position he did not play was pitcher.
The MLB Pipeline top 15 2026 MLB Draft prospect showed off his skill and versatility during Georgia Tech’s 15th win of the season.
Lackey in 2025 with the Jackets
This season, Lackey is seeing the baseball extremely well. He is one of the Yellow Jackets’ best hitters this season with a .467 batting average. The catcher also has a 1.533 OPS this season.
Lackey also has five doubles, seven home runs, and 28 RBIs in 2026. Out of the 17 total games he has played in, he has multiple hits in nine of those games.
He is coming off a very good 2025 season, where he was a Buster Posey Award Semifinalist and a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference nomination.
Big-time series against Clemson coming up
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have a 15-2 overall record this season. They are the fourth-best team in the country, according to D1 Baseball’s latest top 25 rankings.
They have a weekend series against the Clemson Tigers on the road at Doug Kingsmore Stadium from March 12-14.
The first pitch for the game on Thursday, March 12, is at 7 p.m. EST.
