Germany vs. Brazil World Baseball Classic Qualifier Preview

Germany and Brazil get day two of the World Baseball Classic Qualifier underway. Brazil comes in 0-1 with a 5-0 loss to Colombia and Germany with a 12-2 win over China in 7 innings.

Germany was led by Donald Lutz and Simon Baumgardt on day 1. Donald Lutz crushed a two-run homer in the 7th and was on base 3 times. Simon Baumgardt had two hits and was on base all 5 times he came to the plate. Markus Solbach went 6.2 innings with two runs allowed and scattered eight hits to get the win. It was a perfect start for the Germans as they look to make history and reach the World Baseball Classic.

Tommy Sommer gets the ball in against Brazil on day 2. He posted a 3.92 ERA for Kane County in the American Association in 2024.

Brazil counters with Enzo Sawayama. He was one of Brazil’s best pitchers at the qualifiers three years ago, striking out five in four innings and not allowing a hit.

Brazil was largely shut down in game one by Colombia pitching. Julio Teherán dominated over six innings and Brazil got a man to third base just once in the 5-0 loss. They’ll look to bounce back on day two against a confident Germany squad.

Prediction:

With Brazil playing the early game after a night game, still trying to shake off some rust after not playing any exhibition, and Germany confident, expect the Germans to come out strong and put themselves one win away from the World Baseball Classic. Germany 4-2.
