In a thrilling conclusion to Prague Baseball Week, Germany captured their first-ever title at the tournament, edging past the host Czech Republic 2–1 in a dramatic pitchers’ duel that signaled a potential turning point for German baseball.
Germany leaned on a stellar start from Christian Pedrol, who delivered a career-best performance in national team colors. The Brazilian-born right-hander of German descent worked seven masterful innings, allowing just three hits, one run, and striking out six. After a rocky first inning in which he hit a batter, walked another, and allowed a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Martin Červinka, Pedrol settled into a dominant rhythm that shut down Czechia the rest of the way.
Czechia, opting for a bullpen-by-committee strategy, kept Germany quiet through seven innings, limiting them to just two hits and no runners past first base. But the eighth inning cracked open after a two-out error gave Germany life. Eric Brenk seized the moment, delivering a clutch RBI single to tie the game at 1–1.
The breakthrough set the stage for Simon Bäumer in the top of the ninth. The powerful German slugger crushed a towering solo home run deep over the right-field fence — a blast that may go down as one of the most iconic moments in German baseball history.

With a one-run lead, young left-hander Noah Lindt was tasked with closing out the game. Despite some shaky defense behind him, Lindt held firm, recording the final out via strikeout of Jakub Kubica to seal the historic win and secure Germany’s first Prague Baseball Week Gold Medal. Lind struck out five in two innings and looked dominant.
This championship marks a milestone for a German team that has never won the European Championship, Honkbal Week, or Prague Baseball Week before. The victory is especially sweet given it came against the same Czech side that eliminated Germany in the 2022 World Baseball Classic qualifiers in Regensburg, Ger.
Germany now shifts focus to the European Championship in the Netherlands this September, a crucial event in their quest to qualify for the 2026 Premier12 Qualifiers and potentially, the Olympics. With a youthful core and the possibility of adding minor leaguers, Germany appears poised for a breakout.
Czechia, disappointed on home soil, will look to rebound at the European Championship as they continue building toward the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
In the bronze medal game, Austria stunned Italy 12–5, earning a rare podium finish. Italy, sending a U23 roster, finished last in the top group and will regroup ahead of September’s European Championship pool hosted in Milan, where they’ll face Greece, Switzerland, and Lithuania. It’s a crucial campaign for the Azzurri following their first-ever finish outside the top eight in European Championship history.
