Gleyber rocks the baby, calls it ‘revenge’

Gleyber Torres put an exclamation point on the final out of New York’s 5-1 win over Cleveland in Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, right as his team advanced to the ALCS. The Yankees’ second baseman “rocked the baby” after receiving shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s toss at second base for the third out in the top of the ninth.

One game earlier, Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor “rocked the baby” after hitting a home run off of Gerrit Cole — a “cute” move according to the Yankees’ ace.

Josh Naylor’s celebration
The crowd at Yankee Stadium booed Naylor heartily throughout Tuesday’s game and serenaded him with chants of “Who’s your Daddy” whenever he came up to bat. Naylor was not offended by the Bronx crowd’s apparent disdain for his gesture.

“That was so sick,” Naylor said. “That was honestly like a dream come true as a kid; playing in an environment like this where they’ve got diehard fans, it’s cool … The fact I got that going through the whole stadium, that was sick.”

After Tuesday’s game, Torres explained his reasoning for the celebration imitation.

“We feel like it was a little disrespectful for the team, not just for Cole,” Torres said. “Baseball always has another opportunity. We won tonight, and that’s the revenge. Now they can watch the game on TV tomorrow.”
