Throwing a perfect game is one of the most difficult feats in all of baseball. However, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ High-A affiliate, the Greensboro Grasshoppers, have managed to throw two perfect games in the past nine days.
UNBELIEVABLE!

The Grasshoppers’ first perfect game came July 4 against the Aberdeen IronBirds. Greensboro won the game 2-0. The team used three pitchers—Khristian Curtis, Jake Shirk and Michael Walsh—to complete the perfect game. Curtis threw six innings, Shirk pitched two, and Walsh finished the final inning to earn the save. It was the first non-complex, nine-inning perfect game in all of the minor leagues since 2017, according to MLB.com’s Joe Trezza.
One perfect game alone is a remarkable accomplishment. There have been just 24 at the major league level in the past 154 years. On July 12, the Grasshoppers threw yet another perfect game, this time against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
In the 4-0 win, Hung-Leng Chang, Joshua Loeschorn, Shirk and Jarod Bayless combined to complete the second perfect game of the season. Shirk was part of both games.
Of all the pitchers used over the two games, Curtis is the only top-30 prospect. He is the Pirates’ No. 24 prospect and is in his second season with the organization. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 2023 MLB draft.
