The Cleveland Guardians No. 4 outfielder and No. 70 ranked MLB pipeline prospect Jaison Chourio will miss the remainder of the 2024 regular season with a broken left wrist, according to team beat writer Mandy Bell of MLB.com.
He sustained the injury with his left wrist while diving for a ball in center field in the bottom of the fifth inning in their 3-0 win on the road at Low-A Salem on Aug. 24.
Chourio, 19, was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and signed a one-year contract worth $1.2 million with the Guardians organization during the international signing period on January 15, 2022.
Chourio is the brother of 20-year-old Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio.
This season, Chourio played in 98 games for Low-A Lynchburg and batted .270 with 432 plate appearances, ripping 90 hits, 24 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 58 RBI, swiping 44 bases, 86 walks, 69 strikeouts, and a .813 OPS.
Chourio played for the American League Futures Team at the 2024 All-Star Game at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Chourio played with Águilas del Zulia during the 2023-24 Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional regular season in 13 games with 17 plate appearances and hit .273, three hits, one RBI, walking six times, and striking out once.
Last season, Chourio split his time between the Rookie Complex Level and Low-A Lynchburg, playing in 48 games with 231 plate appearances. He batted .321 with 59 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, one home run, 28 RBI, 20 stolen bases, 44 walks, and 52 strikeouts.
In his three minor league seasons, Chourio has played in 186 games and hit .286 with 838 plate appearances, smacking 186 hits, 44 doubles, six triples, seven home runs, 114 RBI, 78 stolen bases, 170 walks, 143 strikeouts, and a .834 OPS.
