The Hamilton Cardinals, a team in the Intercounty Baseball League, one of Canada’s premier baseball leagues, have announced the signing of veteran Nicaraguan pitcher Carlos Teller.

Teller, 38, has had an extensive international career and recently helped Nicaragua qualify for the 2026 World Baseball Classic after representing the country in the WBC Qualifier this past February in Taiwan. He has been a consistent presence on Nicaragua’s national team, including the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Throughout his professional career, Teller has pitched across the Americas. He spent four seasons in the minor leagues within the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants organizations, reaching Triple-A with the Fresno Grizzlies in 2013. In 199 minor league innings, he compiled a 4.25 ERA.

Teller has also played winter ball in Mexico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic, and has competed in the Caribbean Series three times. He pitched in Mexico’s summer league and most recently posted a 6.00 ERA with seven strikeouts over nine innings this past winter in the Dominican Republic.

This season, Teller has been dominant in Nicaragua’s Germán Pomares spring/summer league, recording a 1.62 ERA and 14 saves with 26 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. He will now join the Hamilton Cardinals to continue his baseball journey.

Barring any surprises, Teller is expected to be on Nicaragua’s roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. It could mark his final appearance wearing the national team’s jersey. Before then, he is also expected to represent Nicaragua at the Copa América tournament this November as part of the team’s preparations for the WBC.
