The Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan announced the winners of several awards for the 2025 season on Wednesday.
The CPBL Awards Ceremony at the Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, brought players and fans together for an evening of celebration and praise for the league’s best performers from the past year.
The three major awards announced were Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Most Improved Player of the Year. Gold Glove and Best Nine Award winners were also revealed.
MVP – Pedro Fernández, SP, Rakuten Monkeys – Fernandez takes home the MVP after a stellar second season on the mound in the CPBL with the Monkeys. The 31-year-old from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, finished with a 15-2 record and 2.01 ERA, suitable for fourth best in the league, this season. He struck out 15 batters in 13 innings in the Taiwan Series, allowing just two earned runs in two appearances against the CTBC Brothers.
Rookie of the Year – Lin Shi-Xiang, RP, TSG Hawks – Lin became the second consecutive Hawks player to win the Rookie of the Year Award after shortstop Tseng Tzu-Yu took home the honor in 2024. The right-hander made 60 appearances out of the bullpen and led the CPBL with 30 saves. The 24-year-old allowed just 46 hits in 60.1 innings and had a remarkably low 1.79 ERA.
Most Improved Player – Li Wu Yung-Qin, RP, Fubon Guardians – Li posted a 2.76 ERA in 56 games out of the Guardians’ bullpen after appearing in no more than six games with the CTBC Brothers the previous five seasons. He had a 1.59 ERA in 22.2 innings at home compared to a 4.12 mark on the road. The lefty was highly effective against left-handed batters, holding opponents to a .196 average in 130 plate appearances.
