The Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional announced Thursday that the Hexagonal Monumental series scheduled for October 8-11 has been postponed.
The event, which was to be held at Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium in Caracas, “has been postponed due to logistical issues with the participating teams,” the league announced via its website.
The LVBP said the event will be rescheduled for nine dates which will be announced shortly.
According to the league, the rescheduled event will still include the Cangrejeros de Santurce of Puerto Rico, the Tigres del Licey from the Dominican Republic and the Japan Breeze, while the hosts will be the LVBP’s Tiburones de La Guaira, Leones del Caracas and Navegantes del Magallanes.
The “logistical issues with participating teams” likely arise from diplomatic disputes between Venezuela and the United States and the Dominican Republic. Neither the United States nor the Dominican Republic currently have diplomatic relations with Venezuela, which means that the Cangrejeros de Santurce, Japan Breeze, and Tigres del Licey would have to travel to a third country to obtain entry visas to Venezuela. In addition, economic sanctions levied against Venezuela make it difficult for persons and organizations in the United States to conduct business with entities in Venezuela.
