Ahead of this 2025 season, the team here at World Baseball Network put together a list of one prospect from each MLB team that could impact their respective teams.
Diamondbacks: SP Yu-Min Lin
Coming off Chinese Taipei’s first-ever Premier12 championship, Yu-Min Lin is looking to add to his stellar 2024 season. According to MLB Pipeline, the 21-year-old is the seventh-best prospect in the DBacks organization. He signed with the DBacks in December 2021 after dominating for Chinese Taipei at the 2021 U-23 World Cup. Lin made a majority of his starts at the Double-A level, ending his season with the Triple-A club. In 21 starts across three levels, Lin posted a 3-6 record, a 4.05 ERA, striking out 101 batters and walking 38 in 104.1 innings pitched. While the Diamondbacks recently added Corbin Burnes, it will be intriguing to see if they make any moves to open up opportunities for players in their farm system to develop.
Rockies: 2B Adael Amador
Getting the callup from Double-A earlier this season was Rockies prospect Adael Amador. The 21-year-old signed with the Rockies in July 2019 out of the Dominican Republic. Amador only played in 10 games with the Rockies, hitting for a .171 average in 35 at-bats. He would miss some time due to injury and returned to Hartford for the rest of the season. With Double-A Hartford, Amador hit .230, 14 home runs, and 52 RBIs while also stealing 35 bases. The Rockies signed both Thairo Estrada and Kyle Farmer to one-year deals, as it could be likely that Amador could be the starting second baseman for the Rockies by the end of the 2025 season.
Dodgers: RP Edgardo Henriquez
Also making his MLB debut towards the end of the 2024 season was relief pitcher Edgardo Henriquez, who could have a pivotal role in the Dodgers bullpen for 2025. Henriquez signed with the Dodgers back in September 2018 from Venezuela. The 22-year-old was sidelined the entire 2023 season from Tommy John surgery but came back stronger than ever for 2024. Henriquez would pitch in all four levels of the minor leagues before making his MLB debut. He appeared in three games with the Dodgers, posting a 2.70 ERA in 3.1 innings, picking up one save, and striking out five batters. The Dodgers will certainly give a long look to Henriquez as he could be a key piece to the backend of the Dodgers bullpen in 2025.
Padres: OF Tirso Ornelas
As Jurickson Profar is still a free agent, currently slated to serve as the Padres starting left-fielder is Mexican-born outfielder Tirso Ornelas. The 24-year-old is the 18th-best prospect in the Padres organization, according to MLB Pipeline. Ornelas is coming off one of the best years of his career, where he spent the entire 2024 season playing in Triple-A. In 128 games, Ornelas hit for a .297 average, hitting 23 home runs and driving in 89 RBIs. He is currently on the Padres 40-man roster, so it will be interesting to see whether they re-sign Jurickson Profar or decide to head in an alternate direction.
Giants: 3B Sabin Ceballos
One player who could climb the minor league system quickly could be the Giants third baseman, Sabin Ceballos. The 22-year-old was born in Puerto Rico and was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft. The Giants acquired Ceballos in July 2024, which sent Luke Jackson and Jorge Soler back to the Braves. Ceballos spent the 2024 season playing in High-A between the Braves and Giants organizations, playing in 116 games, hitting for a .269 average, with ten home runs, 60 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. He would also represent Puerto Rico during the Premier12 tournament in 2024. As Matt Chapman enters the final year of his contract with the Giants, it could be fascinating to see how quickly Ceballos could rise through the Giants system if he begins the season in Double-A.
