Is Drew Burress the Number One Overall Pick for the 2026 MLB Draft?

It is never too early to look at MLB draft projections for the next calendar year. Who will be some of the best college baseball players eligible to join the professional ranks? Georgia Tech’s Drew Burress is one of the first to come to mind.

The Yellow Jackets’ center fielder is batting .323 this season and has three home runs. He has had two hits in each of the last two games Georgia Tech has played against the Marshall Thundering Herd.

He is not only the team leader in home runs but also RBI, with 13 this season.

In 2024, Burress was ACC Freshman of the Year, a second-team All-American, and a first-team All-ACC. In short, he came on the scene early in his career and has picked that up quickly in 2025.

He nearly set the team record for single-season home runs last year and led Georgia Tech in batting average, home runs, and RBI. He also had the best slugging percentage (.821) by a Yellow Jacket player since 1926.

D1 Baseball thinks highly of Burress regarding the 2026 MLB Draft. His name is up there with the other big prospects like Alabama’s Justin Lebron, Texas A&M’s Gavin Grahovac, and North Carolina’s Jason DeCaro.

There is a long way to go until the draft, when Burress can get picked. However, I believe he will have the eyes of countless scouts on him until then. He is an undoubted threat to be the number-one overall selection in 2026.
