Mavrick Rizy had an eventful and successful freshman season in Baton Rouge with the LSU Tigers.
The right-handed pitcher played a major part in LSU winning the 2025 national championship. He made the most relief appearances (24) out of any pitcher on the team.
Rizy and His Freshman Season in 2025
In 24 2/3 innings of work, the former number one high school prospect from Massachusetts had a 4.74 ERA and 29 strikeouts.
His best performance of the season came against the McNeese Cowboys on April 15. In a 10-3 win for LSU, Rizy pitched a season-high in innings and had a season-high in strikeouts. In 2 2/3 innings of work, he had six strikeouts while allowing just one hit and no runs.
Rizy also gained some NCAA Tournament experience during his freshman season. During LSU’s national title run, he pitched in three games. He pitched in two games against the Little Rock Trojans in the Baton Rouge regional. After that, he pitched in one game against the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Baton Rouge super regional.
In those three appearances combined, Rizy had three strikeouts while allowing just two hits, one walk, and no runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Rizy and a Possible Breakout Sophomore Year Incoming
With loads of bullpen experience under his belt with LSU, Rizy can be an impactful pitcher for LSU in 2026.
He is a part of a pitching staff that is also returning arms like Casan Evans, Zac Cowan, and William Schmidt.
Up Next for the LSU Tigers
The LSU Tigers will start their 2026 national title defense with a three-game weekend series at home in Alex Box Stadium. From February 13-15, they will play against the Milwaukee Panthers.
