This week, the Miami Hurricanes landed a commitment from a big-time prospect in the 2026 class. Jacob Lombard announced his commitment to the Hurricanes on Monday. According to Perfect Game, he is the number two overall prospect in the country.
The only player ranked ahead of Lombard is Grady Emerson, who is committed to the Texas Longhorns.
Lombard is an infielder prospect from Miami, Fla. He currently plays baseball for Gulliver Preparatory School.
Since he is one of the best high school baseball players in the country, Lombard is thought of highly in the early looks at the 2026 MLB draft.
According to a way-too-early 2026 mock draft by MLB.com, Lombard is slotted in as a possible top five pick.
This will make it challenging for the Miami Hurricanes to retain him for any shot at a college baseball career.
Miami’s 2026 recruiting class ranks 15th in the country. The Hurricanes have three top 100 prospects in that recruiting class. Lombard is one of those three prospects and is the highest-ranked player Miami has in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
In 2025, the Hurricanes brought in the number six recruiting class that contained two top 100 prospects.
Miami head coach J.D. Arteaga has the Hurricanes hot on the recruiting trail after a season that included a super regional appearance.
