Jacob Misiorowski Teases Playing for Poland in WBC Ahead of Matchup with Paul Skenes

The Milwaukee Brewers appear to have another elite pitcher on their roster. Over the years, they have developed players like Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta—all of whom became All-Stars. Now, Jacob Misiorowski is making a splash in the majors.

Misiorowski has made two big league starts and has not surrendered a hit through his first 11 innings of major league action. His fastball consistently reaches triple digits, and he features nasty breaking pitches. He is the first player in MLB history to have more wins (2) than hits allowed (1) in his first two career starts.

During an appearance on “Foul Territory,” he joked about being open to playing for Poland in the World Baseball Classic.

“If they reach out to me, I think I’d be in,” said Misiorowski.

Poland is not participating in the 2026 World Baseball Classic and has never participated. The country competes in the European Baseball Championship, but a player like Misiorowski could make them dangerous on the world stage.

Nicknamed “The Miz,” Misiorowski is already considered one of the favorites to win National League Rookie of the Year after just two starts. He has the makings of an ace, and on Wednesday, he will face another young pitching phenom: Paul Skenes.

Skenes, like Misiorowski, regularly throws in the triple digits. However, Skenes has a year of big league experience under his belt. He won NL Rookie of the Year last year and finished third in National League Cy Young Award voting in his debut season. Skenes is one of the favorites to win the NL Cy Young Award this year and has dominated opposing hitters.

Misiorowski has been better through his first two starts than Skenes was, but Skenes has done nothing but dominate major league pitching. The matchup figures to be one of the best pitching matchups of the year and could be part one of a long saga between two NL Central rivals.

While they will face off tomorrow, they were almost teammates at Louisiana State University in 2022—the year the Tigers most recently won the College World Series before their title this past weekend. Misiorowski was coming off a strong season at Crowder College and had secured a scholarship to LSU. However, the Brewers liked him so much that they drafted him in the second round of the MLB draft. What could have been.

The highly anticipated matchup will take place later on today, as the Brewers host the Pirates at 2:05 EDT, live on MLB Network.
