This past weekend, the Florida Gators had some bad injury luck roll their way during an intrasquad scrimmage. Jacksonville transfer and outfielder Jaden Bastian suffered a compound fracture to his right leg. The injury came after tripping over first base and landing awkwardly.
According to Andrew Abadie of the Gainesville Sun, Bastian was loaded onto a stretcher and taken out of Condron Family Ballpark via an ambulance.
A University of Florida spokesperson also told the Gainesville Sun that Bastian’s injury will require surgery.
Bastian looked to be an impact transfer portal player for the Gators in 2026.
He had a great season in 2025 with the Jacksonville Dolphins. Bastian broke out with a massive sophomore season. Bastian had a .302 batting average in 55 games.
The outfielder also had 10 doubles, 11 home runs, and 33 RBI. He found his way on base often with an on-base percentage of .433.
Bastian also led the Atlantic Sun Conference in stolen bases with 36 last season. He was tied for first in the conference in triples with five.
The speed Bastian put on display was a real factor in his game last season.
The Florida Gators have two exhibition games on their schedule for this fall.
On Friday, October 31, they will play the Jacksonville Dolphins at Vystar Ballpark in Jacksonville, Fla. The first pitch for that exhibition is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EDT.
Then, on Sunday, November 9, they will play the Georgia Southern Eagles for a fall exhibition matchup at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville.
The first pitch for that game is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT.
