Jazz Chisholm Jr. Becomes First Player From the Bahamas to Join 30-30 Club

The New York Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins last season, and he has become a star for the team. On Friday night, he hit his 30th home run, joining the 30-30 club.

Chisholm became the third Yankee in franchise history to hit at least 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a season. He joined Alfonso Soriano, who accomplished the feat in 2002 and 2003 and Bobby Bonds, who did it in 1975, as the only Yankees to have a 30-30 season. However, he is now the only player in history born in the Bahamas to join the 30-30 club.

Chisholm has already achieved more than any Major League player born in the Bahamas. He has hit 108 career home runs and stolen 129 bases. He joined the 30-30 club this season for the first time in his career despite missing a chunk of time. He has always been seen as a talented player and had already been an All-Star once before the Yankees traded for him. However, he believes playing in New York has brought the best out of him.

I just feel like when I’m here in New York, I’m not going to lie, I feel the energy of the fans,” Chisholm said to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. They get me going every day. It gives me something to play for every day. I got my teammates here, and we love playing here. We love being a part of the Yankees. We love playing together. They push me a lot.”

Chisholm was named an All-Star this season, but he thinks going 30-30 is just scratching the surface of the player he can be. He expressed his desire to stay with the Yankees, and even hinted at his aspirations to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a season.

I don’t want to leave New York,” Chisholm said, per Kirschner. If you’ve ever played here, you would never want to leave. At the end of the day, it just depends on if they want me. That’s the difference. Do they want a 40-40 player? You tell me.”

Chisholm is also the only player ever born in the Bahamas to hit a home run in the World Series. He could join Ed Armbrister as the only other Bahaman-born player to win a World Series if the Yankees can win it all this season.
