Jimmy Janicki Showing he is a 2027 MLB Draft Prospect to Watch Out For

OMAHA, Neb. – If college baseball fans did not know who Troy catcher Jimmy Janicki was before, they do now after watching him during the 2026 College World Series.

Janicki is throwing himself into the mix as a top-notch 2027 MLB Draft prospect to watch out for next season.

Power Surge for Janicki in 2026, two home runs in Omaha

In two games against West Virginia and Ole Miss at the College World Series, Janicki has four hits, with two of them being home runs. Those two home runs for Janicki were his 20th and 21st of the season.

Janicki has found lots of power in his bat this season. In 2025, during his freshman season with the Trojans, he had just two home runs in 200 at-bats. Janicki did maintain a solid .280 batting average.

However, in 2026, the catching prospect has a .344 batting average, a .417 on-base percentage, 25 doubles, and 87 RBIs. Janicki was the 2026 Sun Belt Player of the Year and a Perfect Game second-team All-American.

He also received an invitation to the USA Baseball training camp for the collegiate national team.

Janicki has refined himself at the plate in his sophomore season and has completely gained the ability to hit for power. He is now a draft prospect everyone must keep on their radar.

An article from Perfect Game in December of 2025 had Janicki as the 35th overall collegiate draft prospect for 2027. It is safe to say that he has climbed up that list.

Up next for Troy

After a 12-8 elimination win over Ole Miss in the 2026 College World Series, Troy stays alive in the race for a national championship.

They will play the loser of the game between North Carolina and West Virginia on Tuesday, June 16, at 2 p.m. ET. That will be another elimination game at Charles Schwab Field that will be on ESPN.
