Juan Soto finished his stellar contract year by receiving a 2024 Silver Slugger Award in the outfield. In addition to being an MVP finalist, Soto picked up a Silver Slugger in his first year in the Bronx with a massive offseason ahead of him.
Soto joins Aaron Judge as the two New York Yankee Silver Slugger recipients to win the award in 2024. The Yankees also won the team Silver Slugger Award largely due to Soto’s successful season at the plate. Soto accumulated 7.9 WAR throughout the season and generated most of that at the plate.
The Dominican-born Soto hit 41 home runs, had 109 RBIs, 128 runs, 129 walks, and almost a one thousand OPS with a .989. He finished first in the American League in runs, second in walks, and fourth in home runs. Soto set career highs in plate appearances, runs, home runs, and hits. This is Soto’s second-highest OPS total in a full season, with only his OPS totals in the COVID-shortened season and 2021 being higher.
He also made a massive impact on a Yankee team that finished 82-80 in 2023, helping them win the American League in 2024. He and Aaron Judge were named as two of the three finalists for the American League MVP award, which will be presented at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 21.
This is Soto’s fifth Silver Slugger Award and first in the American League. Only 26 years old, Soto now has another piece of hardware on his resume as he enters free agency. Soto will be the premier free agent target on the market this offseason, coming off of an excellent offensive season in which he played 157 games.
