JUCO Star Tyler Myatt Details Commitment to Transfer to Tennessee

About a week ago, Walters State star hitter Tyler Myatt committed to play baseball for the Tennessee Volunteers for the 2026 season.

The Tennessee native helped lead the Walters State Senators all the way to the JUCO World Series, where they finished as runners-up. Myatt was the triple-crown winner at the JUCO level as he led the country in batting average (.484), home runs (31), and RBI (110).

In an interview with World Baseball Network, Myatt detailed his time with Walters State and talked about how good of a program it is.

“The culture is awesome,” Myatt said. “Some of the guys I know that played at Walters State live in Morristown now…The culture is just amazing.”

The elite-level hitting garnered Myatt the attention of big college baseball programs such as LSU and Texas A&M in the transfer portal. Ultimately, Tennessee was the choice for him as it clearly was a dream to play baseball for the Volunteers.

“It’s home,” Myatt said, referring to Tennessee. “It’s the only ballpark I can see myself playing in, and it plays well for lefties too.”

Myatt watched plenty of Tennessee baseball when he was younger and mentioned some of the Volunteers players he idolized growing up.

“I liked Jordan Beck and Drew Gilbert,” Myatt said. “He [Gilbert] was always exciting. I’m not sure I can hype myself up like he does sometimes, but the home run he had against Wright State was just electric. I remember sitting on my couch watching that.”

The Tennessee coaching staff was all in on Myatt. Volunteers assistant coach Ross Kivett and head coach Tony Vitello both paid the Walters State star a visit during his playing days with the Senators.

“Kivett came to watch me during a mid-week game where I went four for four,” Myatt said. “A week later, he texted me and kept telling me we got to let the “boss” see you.”

Myatt added: “They all got to see me at different times. Each time they showed up, something good happened.”

The Tennessee kid will get to fulfill his dream and play for Tennessee at Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the 2026 college baseball season.
