The Jayhawks had 21 hits as a team and seven of those hits were home runs. The big story from the blowout win was five consecutive home runs the team hit in the third inning.
Chase Diggins got the big stretch of long balls going with a three-run home run extending the Kansas lead to 9-1. It would be one of two home runs Diggins hit.
Max Soliz Jr. Followed up Diggins’ home run with a solo shot to make it 10-1. Brady Counsell came up and hit a solo shot right after that.
Then, Brady Ballinger hit a solo home run for the fourth straight home run. Jackson Hauge hit a solo shot to make it five long balls in a row. Hauge also had two home runs in the game along with Diggins.
By the time this home run derby Kansas put on in the third inning was over, the Jayhawks had a 13-1 lead. They would go on to cruise and end the game in seven innings.
Kansas is now 15-2 overall this season. They begin Big 12 play on Friday, Mar. 14, as they will play the Baylor Bears for a weekend series at home in Hoglund Ballpark. The first pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
