Each Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) team has played 60 or more games in the 2025 season.
In professional baseball, fans generally have a good sense of which clubs have a chance to go the distance and who should already be thinking about next season. At 20-47-2 and 20 games behind the LG Twins for first place, the Kiwoom Heroes are the team that could have their sights set on what’s next.
It’s time to check in on more of the latest news from the top professional baseball league in South Korea, the KBO.
Stone Garrett Joins Heroes Following Release from Nationals – Last week, former Major League Baseball outfielder Stone Garrett signed a short-term contract with the Heroes as an injury replacement for Ruben Cardenas.
Yoo Jee-ho of Yonhap News Agency reports that Garrett, 29, will earn $35k during his time with the Heroes. Garrett has previous experience playing professional baseball overseas, playing 39 games with the Australian Baseball League’s Sydney Blue Sox during the 2016-17 season.
Garrett made his MLB debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022. Still, his 2023 season ended in August after he broke his left ankle and fractured his fibula crashing into the Yankee Stadium right field wall. He had a .801 OPS and nine home runs in 89 games before the injury.
Choi Hyoung-woo Makes History With Tigers – At 41, Kia Tigers designated hitter Choi Hyoung-woo became the oldest player in KBO history to win Player of the Month honors for his performance in May.
In May, Choi led all qualified KBO players with a .407 batting average, a .505 on-base percentage, and a .721 slugging percentage. The 2008 KBO Rookie of the Year has hit 405 career home runs and smashed a career high of 33 in 2015.
Choi last won a Player of the Month Award in May 2017.
SSG Landers Acquire Kim Sung-wook From Dinos – On Sunday, the NC Dinos traded outfielder Kim Sung-wook to the SSG Landers for cash considerations and a draft pick, reports Dan Kurtz of MyKBO on X (formerly Twitter).
Kim, 32, began his career with the Dinos in 2013 and went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base in his debut with the Landers, who defeated the LG Twins 6-2 on Tuesday.
“In my view, I think Sung-wook has something very significant, but he seems not to realize it yet,” Landers manager Lee Seung-yong told Chosun Biz EN. “I think it’s not too late at this age, and I want to make sure that he can draw that part out well. The performance analysis team has checked what the issues are by comparing last year and this year, and I am planning to give him opportunities to adapt slowly and try to bring out one thing at a time.”
KBO Standings as of Thursday, June 12
