On Wednesday, Florida Gators head coach Kevin O’Sullivan announced that he is taking a leave of absence from the team effective immediately.
The reason for the leave of absence was noted to be personal matters and family issues. O’Sullivan left a comment on a press release from the University of Florida.
“I appreciate the support of the university and athletic department,” said O’Sullivan. “I have some personal and family issues that need my full attention at this time.”
It is also worth noting that O’Sullivan has a three-game suspension that he will serve at the beginning of the 2026 season.
He will miss Florida’s season-opening series against the UAB Blazers at Condron Family Ballpark.
In 2025, the Florida Gators finished the season 39-22 overall. They were also 15-15 in SEC play.
The Gators made the 2025 NCAA Tournament and participated in the Conway regional. Despite a dominant win over Fairfield, two losses against East Carolina knocked them out. Florida failed to make a super regional after advancing to one in both 2023 and 2024.
O’Sullivan has put together a decorated career in Gainesville. Since being hired in 2007, he has won 756 games at Florida.
He has led the Gators to the College World Series nine times and led them to the 2017 national championship.
O’Sullivan has also led Florida to six SEC regular season championships and two SEC Tournament championships. He has been the SEC Coach of the Year in 2010, 2014, and 2018.
