After Paul Mainieri was relieved of his duties as the head coach of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall was mentioned as a possible suitor for the head coaching position in Columbia.
‘Nothing will distract us from our standards’
During a press conference on April 1, Schnall responded to rumors floating around that his name is in the discussion for the South Carolina head coaching position.
“We are in week 11, and we are already talking about jobs,” Schnall said. “I can assure you that there is going to be nothing that will distract us [Coastal Carolina] from our standards.”
Schnall also talked about Coastal Carolina’s commitment to adjusting to the ever-evolving college baseball landscape and their commitment to remain elite.
“The landscape of college baseball has changed drastically in the last two or three years,” Schnall stated. “If you do not adapt and adjust, you get run over. We’re very fortunate at Coastal Carolina to have tremendous leadership…They fully understand these changes and the requirements it takes for Coastal [Carolina] baseball to remain elite.”
Schnall finished off his statement with a reminder of his confidence in Coastal Carolina to keep its baseball program competitive.
“We have full confidence in their leadership.”
Schnall and his historic first season in Conway, contract extension
In his first season as the head coach of the Chanticleers, Schnall led Coastal Carolina to a 56-13 overall record. The Chanticleers won the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles while also making it to the College World Series.
Coastal Carolina finished as national runners-up in 2025 as the LSU Tigers beat them in the national championship series.
Due to the historic season, Schnall was the Sun Belt Coach of the Year and the Perfect Game Coach of the Year.
Back in October, Coastal Carolina and Schnall agreed to a contract extension that will last through the 2030 season.
Up next for Coastal Carolina
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have a 21-7 overall record. They are also 9-0 in Sun Belt play this season and have won eight straight games.
In D1 Baseball’s latest poll, they are ranked 14th in the country.
Their next game is on Thursday, April 2, against the South Alabama Jaguars. The game is at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C., and the first pitch is at 6 p.m. ET.
