Kike Hernández Shows Interest in Joining Puerto Rico for World Baseball Classic

Kiké Hernández has represented Puerto Rico in the last two World Baseball Classics and is expressing interest in competing again in 2026.

Henández has established himself as a valuable piece of the Los Angeles Dodgers in their quest for back-to-back World Series titles. He has hit seven home runs already this season, after hitting 12 all of last season. However, Hernández has proven he can shine in the biggest moments.

In the last two postseasons, he has hit .305 with two home runs and eight RBI. He has proven to come through in the big moments, so he could find himself thriving again in the World Baseball Classic.

In 2023, he went 6-for-20 with four RBIs. In 2017, he hit .267 with two RBIs. Puerto Rico will look for better results in 2026, and Hernández could be a key player. Puerto Rico went 3-1 in the last tournament, losing to Mexico in the quarterfinals.

Puerto Rico could have star players like Francisco Lindor, Carlos Correa, Javier Báez, and Christian Vázquez. However, players like Hernández, who can play multiple positions and lengthen a lineup, are often the deciding factors.
