The Kiwoom Heroes made their first big splash of the KBO offseason, agreeing to a long-term extension with catcher Kim Jae-hyun. The deal will keep Kim with the club for the next six years and earn him up to 1 billion won.

A 2012 eighth-round pick by the then-Nexon Heroes, Kim has played in a part-time role for the majority of his 11-year career. The 2024 season, however, constituted something of a breakout for the 31-year-old, as he took over the regular catching role with 110 games played and posted a .243 batting average that was his highest since 2015.
Kim will look to lead the Heroes out of their two-year stay at the bottom of the KBO standings. The club once again finished in 10th place with a 58-86 record, their second consecutive last-place finish after a Korean Series appearance in 2022.
