The Oklahoma Sooners have allowed just nine runs in the four games they have played in. Two of these great pitching games have come from Kyson Witherspoon, Oklahoma’s ace.

The right-handed junior from Jacksonville, Fla., got the nod for the Sooners on opening day against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Despite giving up two earned runs, he struck out nine batters in five innings.

Thanks to a great game on offense for Oklahoma, Witherspoon got credited for the win as the team beat Lehigh 11-3.

On Friday night, he got his second start of the season in Round Rock, Texas, during the Karbach Round Rock Classic against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

This start was even more impressive than his outing against Lehigh. He gave up just one earned run and struck out 12 batters in seven innings. Oklahoma went on to beat Minnesota 3-2.

Witherspoon’s ERA sits at 2.25 this season. He also has 21 total strikeouts in 12 total innings of work.

He is a highly anticipated MLB draft prospect . According to MLB.com, he ranks 26 overall in the 2025 rankings, making him the seventh-highest overall pitcher in the upcoming draft class.

Witherspoon is also the third-highest overall pitcher in college baseball in the rankings behind Florida State’s Jamie Arnold and UC Santa Barbara’s Tyler Bremner.
