Aguilas de Mexicali (18-17) 4, Tomateros de Culiacan (18-17) 3 (10 Innings/Game 1) – The Aguilas took the final game of the first half of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico regular season, which was delayed until Sunday due to the league’s first rain out of the season on Friday, coming back from a 3-2 deficit to tie the game in the ninth on Norberto Obeso’s RBI single and then scoring the winner when Moises Gutierrez drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th. With the win, Mexicali finishes sixth in the first half of the season and gets 5 1/2 points towards playoff seeding, while Culiacan finishes seventh and gets five points.
Tomateros de Culiacan (18-17) 4, Aguilas de Mexicali (18-17) 2 (Game 2) – An RBI double by Orlando Martinez gave the Tomateros a 1-0 lead in the first, and Joey Meneses followed with a triple that scored Martinez for a 2-0 lead. In the fourth, Mexicali tied the game on RBI singles from Alex Mejia and Bobby Bradley. Meneses’ RBI single in the sixth gave Culiacan the lead, and Jon Singleton’s ground out to second with runners at the corners got Martinez home for the second time in the game with some insurance for the Tomateros.
Venados de Mazatlan (12-23) 2, Yaquis de Obregon 1 (10 Innings) – Starters Jose Urquidy of Mazatlan and Orlando Lara of Obregon each allowed one run on five hits in six innings of work, with Urquidy recording eight strikeouts, in a pitcher’s duel that was settled in extra innings when a passed ball allowed Leo German to score the winner for the Venados.
Charros de Jalisco (20-15) 4, Algodoneros de Guasave (11-24) 2 – Bligh Madris got Jalisco out to a 3-0 lead in the first, driving in Jared Serna, Julio Ornelas, and Reynaldo Rodriguez with a triple. Tirso Ornelas added an RBI double in the fourth for Jalisco. Starter Manny Banuelos allowed one run on three hits, walking six and striking out four in 4 2/3 innings for the Charros. Drew Avans went 3-for-5 with an RBI single for Guasave in the loss.
Caneros de Los Mochis (21-14) 7, Jaguares de Nayarit (20-15) 5 (10 Innings) – Leonys Martin hit his league-leading eighth homer of the season, and a sac fly by Isaac Rodriguez got the go-ahead run home in the 10th as the Caneros edged the Jaguares to open the season’s second half. Martin was one of four Caneros batters with two hits in the game. Aaron Zavala went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, hitting an RBI single in the fourth and a three-run homer in the sixth for Nayarit.
Tucson Baseball Team (13-22) 4, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (20-15) 3 – Gaige Howard’s RBI single in the top of the eighth scored Alejandro Quezada with the go-ahead run as the Baseball Team started the second half on a winning note. River Town went 3-for-4 and scored twice for Tucson, while Augustin Ruiz drove in two runs with a first-inning double.
