Tomateros de Culiacan (13-12) 7, Charros de Jalisco (14-11) 5 – Former Major League speed demon Billy Hamilton went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the Charros, including a two-run homer in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to get by Culiacan. Joey Meneses and J.P. Martinez each had three hits and hit solo homers for the Tomateros, who got back over .500 with the win.
Jaguares de Nayarit (13-12) 10, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (14-11) 3 – The Jaguares added a run here and a pair there, scoring in six of nine innings until they had a seven-run victory. Carlos Sepulveda went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Ricardo Valenzuela scored twice, went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and had four RBIs, and Jacob Rhinesmith scored three times, drove in a run, and had three hits for Nayarit. Harold Ramirez had a two-run double in the sixth for Hermosillo.
Aguilas de Mexicali (12-13) 6, Yaquis de Obregon (17-8) 4 – A three-run homer by Alex Mejia in the eighth followed by a solo homer by Yadir Drake gave the Aguilas the edge over first-place Obregon Wednesday night. The Aguilas bullpenned the game, getting 3 2/3 from opener Jason Blanchard, and Jake Sanchez earned his sixth save of the year, putting him just seven saves away from the all-time LAMP mark.
Algodoneros de Guasave (9-16) 11, Caneros de Los Mochis (15-10) 8 – Jorge Flores went 3-for-5 and scored twice, Jose Lizarraga hit a three-run homer in the second, and Esteban Quiroz went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk as the Algodoneros knocked off the second-place Caneros. Alejandro Urias hit a three-run homer in the first for Los Mochis, and Dayson Croes added a solo homer an inning later.
Tucson Baseball Team (10-15) 2, Venados de Mazatlan (8-17) 1 – RBI singles by Samar Leyva and Ramon Mendoza in the top of the first were enough, and the Baseball Team held on to the slim lead to earn their 10th win of the season. Starter Raul Carrillo allowed three hits over five scoreless innings for Tucson, walking one and striking out five, and the bullpen allowed just one run on a single by Mazatlan’s Italo Motta in the seventh.
