Caneros de Los Mochis Get Second Win Under Chris Coste – In the bottom of the 10th, Yasmany Tomas launched a pitch off Jake Sanchez to deep center field. Aguilas de Mexicali center fielder Cade Gotta tracked it back to the wall and snatched it out of the air, robbing Tomas of a double and possibly a homer, but the ball was deep enough to score Jose Verdugo to tie the game. Aaron Lugo followed with an RBI single to score Alejandro Urias with the game-winner, getting the Caneros back to .500 (11-11) in the second half with a 3-2 win against Mexicali.
The comeback win denied Mexicali’s Jake Sanchez a chance to tie the all-time saves record in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico.

The win was the second for Chris Coste as manager of the Caneros after he took over for the fired Felix Fermin on Friday. Fermin, who played in Major League Baseball with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Seattle, and the Chicago Cubs, was named manager in Los Mochis for the 2023-24 season. The team went 36-32 and made the 2024 playoffs that season and reached the semifinals last season after going 37-31. He went 103-88 as manager of the Caneros and was fired with the team at 30-25, having gone 21-14 in the first half but a disappointing 9-11 to start the second half.
Coste, 52, played four seasons in MLB with Philadelphia and Houston, winning the World Series with the Phillies in 2008. He’s managed the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association since 2020, going 312-247 and winning the inaugural Baseball Champions League Americas in 2023.
Naranjeros de Hermosillo (34-23) 5, Venados de Mazatlan (19-38) 1 – Todd Lott hit a three-run homer in the fourth, his first round-tripper of the year, and Harold Ramirez and Jasson Atondo each had an RBI double as the Naranjeros made short work of Mazatlan. Miles Simington’s double scored Keven Lamas with Mazatlan’s lone run.
Jaguares de Nayarit (33-24) 4, Yaquis de Obregon (33-24) 1 – Small ball got the Jaguares past Obregon on Friday night, with Nayarit getting two runs in the second, one on a squeeze bunt back to the mound by Niko Vasquez and another on a sac fly by Justin Wylie. They got two more in the fourth, with Cito Norzagaray knocking an RBI single into left field and a bases-loaded ground out by Jose Felix scoring Vasquez. Starter Faustino Carrera threw 6 2/3 innings for Nayarit, allowing one run on five hits and a walk, striking out five.
Charros de Jalisco (33-24) 17, Tucson Baseball Team (19-38) 10 – Julian Ornelas went 4-for-6, Japhet Amador went 2-for-3, hit two homers, scored three times, and drove in four runs, and Bligh Madris drove in four runs and went 2-for-4 as the Charros took a slugfest win against Tucson. Amador hit a solo homer in the sixth and a two-run shot in the seventh, and Madris had an RBI double in the six-run first inning for the Charros. Missael Rivera had three doubles for Tucson against three different pitchers.
Algodoneros de Guasave (21-36) 5, Tomateros de Culiacan (32-25) 1 – Saul Vazquez went five scoreless innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out six, and Leo Heras went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Guasave. the Algodoneros now hold eighth place in the second half by three games, which would be enough for them to claim the eighth and final playoff spot should they be able to maintain their place in the standings.
