LAMP: Charros Take Sole Possession of First Place With Sweep of Hermosillo

Charros de Jalisco (12-5) 9, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (9-8) 7 – The Naranjeros rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth, getting a grand slam from Jesus Loya to pull within two, but couldn’t knock off Jalisco, which took sole possession of first place with the win and the sweep of the three-game series. Jared Serna went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs scored, and four RBIs for the Charros, Blight Madris had a double and two walks, and Mateo Gil had three RBIs.

Tomateros de Culiacan (9-8) 6, Yaquis de Obregon (11-6) 2 – Manny Barreda threw seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking one and striking out four as the Tomateros topped Obregon Sunday evening. Brady Whalen and Ramon Rios each hit solo homers for the Tomateros, and Jon Singleton had an RBI double to open the scoring for Culiacan. Sebastian Elizalde went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBIs for Obregon.

Caneros de Los Mochis (11-6) 7, Tucson Baseball Team (6-11) 4 – Eric Filia went 2-for-3 and scored three times, Rodolfo Amador drove in a run with a single in the first, and Asael Sanchez hit his fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the fifth, as the Caneros moved into a tie for second place with Obregon. River Town went 4-for-4 with a run scored and a walk for Tucson in their third consecutive loss.

Jaguares de Nayarit (9-8) 2, Aguilas de Mexicali (9-8) 1 – Ricardo Valenzuela singled home a run in the first and Randy Romero’s solo homer in the top of the ninth was enough to get the Jaguares past the Aguilas in the series finale. Yadir Drake drove in Mexicali’s only run with a double in the bottom of the first. Starter David Reyes threw seven innings for Mexicali, allowing one run on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Algodoneros de Guasave (5-12) 5, Venados de Mazatlan (4-13) 4 (11 Innings) –Ā Jose Alvarez tied the game at three with a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, and Carlos Arellano singled home Wynton Bernard in the bottom of the 11th to send Mazatlan back to the basement alone. Juan Mora’s two-run homer in the sixth gave Mazatlan a 3-2 lead that didn’t hold up.
