LAMP: Hermosillo, Monterrey Win As Winter Ball Season Begins In Mexico

The 80th season of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico started Friday night with a pair of games.

Naranjeros de Hermosillo 4, Yaquis de Obregon 2 – Robert Stock allowed two hits over six shutout innings, striking out six and walking none, as the Naranjeros opened their title defense with a win. Four RBI singles, one each from Willie Calhoun, Irving Lopez, Nicholas Torres, and Jordan Diaz, drove in the Naranjeros’ runs. Starter Odisdramer Despaigner, who pitched for Hermosillo last season, allowed four runs on six hits over four innings.

Sultanes de Monterrey 5, Aguilas de Mexicali 0 – Carter Aldrete scored on a fielder’s choice in the fifth, and his eighth inning three-run homer capped the Sultanes’ season opening win over Mexicali. Starter Noah Bremer went five scoreless innings, allowing four hits for Monterrey.
