Tomateros de Culiacan 7, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 3 – Dwight Smith Jr.’s fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the fourth inning, gave the Tomateros (16-3) a lead, and they tacked on three more in the fifth and two more in the eight to pick up their 16th win of the season. Four Culiacan relievers combined to allow just one baserunner over the final four innings, a two-out single by Reivaj Garcia in the top of the ninth. The loss drops Hermosillo to fourth place with an 11-8 mark.

Caneros de Los Mochis 9, Charros de Jalisco 3 – The Caneros (13-6) dig the long ball, and got three of them on Saturday night, with Yasmany Tomas, Justin Dean, and Eric Filia each hitting two-run homers. Tomas, Dean, and Filia are in a seven-way tie for the league lead with four homers, joining Dwight Smith Jr., Joey Meneses, and Cristian Santana of Culiacan and Alejandro Mejia of Mexicali. The Charros got a homer of their own form Tirso Ornelas.

Algodoneros de Guasave 2, Venados de Mazatlan 0 – Just 24 hours after their hottest offensive night of the season, the Venados’ bats went cold, getting no runs and just seven hits while going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the loss to Guasave Saturday.

Mayos de Navojoa 4, Sultanes de Monterrey 3 (12 Innings) – The Mayos and Sultanes traded extra-innings sac flies, and the Sultanes came up short when Agustin Ruiz drove in Ramon Mendoza in the bottom of the 12th to end the game. The loss drops the Sultanes to 5-13, where they remain a half-game back of Mazatlan in 10th place.

Aguilas de Mexicali 4, Yaquis de Obregon 3 – Wynton Bernard’s sac fly in the top of the ninth sent Luis Cordoba home with the winning run as the Aguilas improved to 12-7, good for third place, four games back of Culiacan. Alex Mejia drove in a pair for Mexicali with a two-out single in the top of the fifth.
