Tomateros de Culiacan (25-20) 5, Yaquis de Obregon (27-18) 3 – The Tomateros won their fifth straight under Lorenzo Bundy, taking the series opener from league leader Obregon on Friday behind a pair of sacrifice flies from Joey Meneses, both of which scored J.P. Martinez, and a two-out, two-run double from Orlando Martinez in the eighth. Sebastian Garcia hit a solo homer in the first for Culiacan. The Tomateros are now 7-3 in the second half and hold a half-game lead on the Jaguares de Nayarit.

Charros de Jalisco (25-20) 3, Naranjeros de Hermosillo (24-21) 2 (11 Innings) – Julian Ornelas went 3-for-4 and drove in all three Jalisco runs as they edged the Naranjeros. With runners on second and third and one out in the top of the third, Ornelas grounded out to first, allowing Bligh Madris to score. Ornelas later singled in the eighth to send Michael Wielansky home with the tying run and again in the 11th, getting Jared Serna home with the game-winner. Charros starter Manny Banuelos threw six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and five walks, striking out seven as Benji Gil’s club won its fourth straight game.

Caneros de Los Mochis (26-19) 7, Tucson Baseball Team (15-30) 2 – Yasmany Tomas hit his fifth homer of the winter, a three-run shot in the sixth that scored Eric Filia and Leonys Martin, and four Los Mochis relievers combined to throw four scoreless, no-hit innings to close out the win. Tucson fell to 2-8 in the second half, five games back of first-place Culiacan.

Venados de Mazatlan (16-29) 4, Algodoneros de Guasave (17-28) 0 – With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the fifth and a 1-0 lead, Mazatlan got a pair of runs, the first when Guasave shortstop Levi Jordan couldn’t handle Edwin Espinal’s grounder, allowing Andres Alvarez to score, and another when reliever Victor Vargas entered the game and walked the following batter, Keven Lamas, forcing Miles Simington across the plate for a 3-0 lead. Simington scored again in the seventh, scooting home when Guasave catcher Alberto Barriga allowed a ball to get past him. Christopher Escarrega hit sac fly in the fifth that allowed Juan Mora to score the game’s first run. Venados starter Jose Urquidy allowed four hits over seven scoreless innings, walking one and striking out seven.
