There’ll be a legend on the mound when the Jaguares de Nayarit open their first season in the Coloso del Pacifico in Tepic, Nayarit on October 15.

The team, which is the relocated Sultanes de Monterrey franchise, will have former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera on hand to throw out the first pitch when they open the season against the Venados de Mazatlan. Rivera, a native of Panama City, Panama, pitched for the Yankees from 1995 to 2013, making 1,115 appearances and recording 652 saves, posting the highest career ERA+ in Major League history with a 205 mark and was named an American League All-Star 12 times. He is the only player to be unanimously elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in the annual balloting of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The Jaguares expect to open training camp on September 1 in Tepic, with exhibition games starting September 18.

Jaguares Trying to Get Randy – In a press release announcing Rivera as a guest at opening night, the Jaguares also announced they are negotiating for Seattle Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena to play in Nayarit this winter, noting that it will depend on how his season in Seattle ends.

Arozarena played three winter seasons in the LAMP for the Mayos de Navojoa, appearing in 130 games from 2016-19 and batting .283/.365/.449 with 14 homers and 55 RBIs. He’s since gone on to become a bona fide star in Major League Baseball and a major contributor to Mexico’s 2023 World Baseball Classic team that reached the semifinals.

MLB Reliever J.P. Feyereisen Headed To Jaguares – The Jaguares have added J.P. Feyereisen, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound righty with 97 games of MLB experience for the 2025-26 season.

Feyereisen, 32, made a pair of appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks this season, throwing four total innings. He’s also pitched in MLB for the Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, and has a career ERA of 3.27 with 98 strikeouts in 104 2/3 innings.
