LAMP: Naranjeros, Aguilas, Venados Win In Extras; Guzman Steals Home for Yaquis

Yaquis de Obregon (9-4) 3, Caneros de Los Mochis (7-6) 1 – Sebastian Elizalde went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, driving in the winning run for the Yaquis with a single in the bottom of the seventh.

Josh Rehwaldt’s double in the bottom of the second scored Rodolfo Amador to give the Caneros a 1-0 lead, but that was all the offense they’d get.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Yaquis tied the game on a wild steal of home by Miguel Guzman. With Guzman on third, Allen Cordoba on first, and one out, Cordoba broke for second and drew a throw from Los Mochis catcher Juan Uriarte. With Cordoba caught in a rundown, Guzman broke for home as Cordoba retreated toward first, and Caneros shortstop Marco Jaime threw home as Guzman ran for the plate. His throw got to Uriarte in time, but Guzman stepped over the outstretched mitt of Uriarte, stepping on the plate to get Obregon on the board.

In the seventh, Elizalde drove in Kevin Villavicenio and Cordoba with a double to left to make it 3-1 Yaquis. Relievers Brandon Brennan, Devin Sweet, and Efrain Contreras combined to throw three perfect innings to hold the lead for Obregon.

Naranjeros de Hermosillo (9-4) 5, Tomateros de Culiacan (7-6) 4 (10 Innings) – Culiacan and Hermosillo took turns throwing fruit at each other, but the Naranjeros got the last shot, with Reivaj Garcia hitting a lead-off double to score the ghost runner in the bottom of the 10th and keep Hermosillo tied for first.

Harold Ramirez’ RBI single in the bottom of the first scored Jose Cardona for a 1-0 Naranjeros lead.

In the top of the second, singles from Brady Whalen and Poncho Ruiz each got runners home for Culiacan, giving the Tomateros a 2-1 lead.

Their lead was short-lived, as Sergio Burruel singled home Jesus Loya in the bottom of the second and Jasson Atondo tripled, scoring Burruel and Cardona for a 4-2 Naranjeros lead.

Culiacan cut into the lead in the seventh when Fernando Villegas doubled to center to score Jon Singleton. In the eighth, they tied the game with an RBI single by Jesus Lugo that scored Luis Verdugo.

Aguilas de Mexicali (8-5) 5, Tucson Baseball Team (5-8) 4 (10 Innings) – Moises Gutierrez went 1-for-2 with two walks and scored three runs for the Aguilas, including the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th, as Mexicali improved to three games over .500.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Aguilas tied the game on a two-run single by Ren Tachioka that scored Cade Gotta and Gutierrez.

The Baseball Team took the lead in the top of the 10th, when Agustin Ruiz hit a one-out single with runners at the corners, scoring Jesus Fabela from third to make it 4-3.

But the Aguilas soared in the bottom of the 10th. With Gilberto Carrera on second as the ghost runner, a wild pitch during a four-pitch walk to lead-off man Moises Gutierrez allowed Carrera to score and tie the game. Irving Lopez then advanced Gutierrez with a sacrifice bunt, and a single by Tachioka put Gutierrez 90 feet away from the plate with the bases loaded. Norberto Obeso followed with a single that scored Gutierrez to end the game.

Venados de Mazatlan (3-10) 6, Charros de Jalisco (8-5) 5 (10 Innings) – Edwin Diaz tied the game for Jalisco in the eighth with a solo homer, but Brayan Quintero hit a 10th inning sac fly that scored the game-winner as Mazatlan earned its third win of the season. Quintero finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored, hitting a two-run triple in the seventh. Successive sac bunts by Leo German and Quintero pushed ghost runner Santiago Gomez across the plate with the winning run for the Venados.

Algodoneros de Guasave (3-10) 12, Jaguares de Nayarit (6-7) 1 – The Algodoneros were anything but soft as they cruised to their third win of the season, putting up 12 runs and launching three homers to improve to 3-10. Jose Lizarraga, Jorge Flores, and Yael Romero each hit solo homers for the Algodoneros.
