LAMP: Naranjeros de Hermosillo Closer to Second Half Title With 8-2 Win Against Jalisco

LAMP logo.

Last year’s Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico champs, the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, are a win closer to the second half title for the 2024-25 season Friday night with an 8-2 win against the Charros de Jalisco.

Hermosillo got four runs in the top of the first, three coming on Alfonso Rivas III’s three-run homer, and never looked back, getting another run in the second and three more in the ninth.

Wilmer Rios allowed two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one, and the Naranjeros bullpen allowed just two hits over the final three innings.

Tomateros de Culiacan 10, Algodoneros de Guasave 1 – Jorge Flores hit a three-run homer to left, and Guasave managed just one run on seven hits as the Tomateros won to remain in a three-way tie with Mexicali and Los Mochis.

Caneros de Los Mochis 7, Yaquis de Obregon 3 – Roel Santos went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and Yasmany Tomas notched his 40th RBI of the year with a two-run single in the Los Mochis win.

Venados de Mazatlan 2, Mayos de Navojoa 1 – Phillip Ervin hit into a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth with runners at first and second and fortunately for the Venados, Navojoa second baseman Ciro Norzagaray made a throwing error, allowing Randy Romero to score the winning run.

Sultanes de Monterrey 9, Aguilas de Mexicali 1 – Cuban starter Roenis Elias threw six innings, allowing one run on two hits, as the Sultanes breezed by the Aguilas. The loss dropped the Aguilas into a three-way tie for third at 16-14. While Monterrey has nothing to play for as a team, Elias’ strong start will undoubtedly whet the appetites of teams looking to reinforce their starting corps for the playoffs.
