Naranjeros de Hermosillo (23-16) 9, Caneros de Los Mochis (22-17) 0 – Starter Jose Samayoa threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight, and the Naranjeros’ bullpen kept the Caneros bats baffled, allowing just two more hits over the final three innings as Hermosillo trounced Los Mochis. Jose Cardona, Jasson Atondo, Jesus Loya, and Edson GArcia each had two hits for Hermosillo, and Agustin Murillo had the only extra-base hit, an RBI double in the fourth.
Yaquis de Obregon (24-15) 10, Tucson Baseball Team (14-25) 5 – Matt McDermott went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth to punctuate Obregon’s early offensive outburst that saw them score all 10 of their runs in the first four innings. Alfredo Hurtado hit a three-run double and Roberto Valenzuela, Zoilo Almonte, and Juan Carlos Gamboa each contributed singles in the third, an inning in which the Yaquis scored six. Jose Urena hit a two-run homer to get Tucson on the board in the ninth.
Jaguares de Nayarit (23-16) 8, Charros de Jalisco (21-18) 2 – The Jaguares waited until the fifth inning to pounce, then exploded for seven runs and held on the rest of the way. Aaron Zavala’s solo homer got the Jaguares on the board in the fifth, Carlos Sepulveda had an RBI double and Jacob Rhinesmith hit a two-run double, then Jose Orozco hit a three-run homer to put the Jaguares in the driver’s seat. Starter Victor Lizarraga allowed one run on five hits and two walks, striking out for for Nayarit.
Tomateros de Culiacan (20-19) 4, Venados de Mazatlan (14-25) 2 – Ramiro Pena went 2-for-3 with a sac fly and a solo homer, Jose Martinez wen 2-for-4 and scored three times, and Orlando Martinez went 3-for-5 as the Tomateros doubled up the Venados, who fell into a three-way tie for eighth place overall with the loss.
Algodoneros de Guasave (14-25) 10, Aguilas de Mexicali (20-19) 5 – Leo Heras launched the fourth pitch of the game over the fence for a solo homer, then added a two-run shot as part of the Algodoneros’ five-run sixth inning. Alan Espinoza contributed a two-run double in the sixth, and 10 Guasave pitchers combined to bullpen the game, with eight of them pitching an inning or less, allowing eight hits and five walks. Moises Gutierrez hit a solo homer in the fourth for Mexicali.
